The equation between Islamic terrorists and a single deranged individual has a singular purpose: to shift the issue as to terrorists from their religious motivation to simple “madness”. That way, we don’t have to deal with them as they are, but only as we would like to think they are. An open invitation to politics as Alice Through the Looking Glass.
