Obama takes family on vacation to sun-drenched, bikini-clad Rio . . . as world burns

TWIN CITIES PIONEER PRESS: A dizzying succession of major world events is bombarding a president who insists on controlling his own time, emotions and political message.

With Japan’s nuclear crisis teetering on the verge of catastrophe, with Libya and Bahrain in violent turmoil, and with financial markets crashing in response, President Barack Obama has been adamantly sticking to his own political and policy playbook.

That has meant muscling past the red-siren headlines to hammer away at the jobs-and-education message that will be the centerpiece of his 2012 campaign, the kind of discipline that is a hallmark of his new senior adviser, David Plouffe.

And it also meant refusing to scrap a five-day trip to Latin America on Friday that will take him to sun-dappled Rio de Janeiro, among other places, rather than staying home to focus on the increasingly disastrous international news confronting his crisis-weary White House.

The road goes on forever, and the party never ends.

When Reagan took time off he usually went to the Reagan Ranch near Santa Barbara. He’d get criticized by folks saying the time spent on vacation suggested that he was in fact too old for the job.

When Bush 43 took time off he usually went to his ranch in Crawford TX. Liberals would sneer at the pix of him chopping wood and clearing brush.

And most other Presidents made liberal use of Camp David.

The point to all this is yes, Presidents need time off. But Obama has taken so much time off in the last few months that it’s as though the WH is his vacation home. At a certain point I think we have the right to expect the President to say “I’m putting my fun time on hold, there’s too much going on right now. I need to be here”. Obama will never say that. I guess we can take some solace from the fact that he didn’t go to Rio during Carnival.

Ben, can you be sure to find out about his motorcades while there?

He is never going to change and do the job that some of the stupid people that believed all his lies are responsible for putting him there.
That picture, if it is Mrs, should be the main picture of her in the WH.
I am trying to believe this man will ONE DAY, realize he has a job to do and STOP all the playing around and get to the job!!!! WHO cares that he has taken all the time he has for fun, basketball and golf, those are NOT HIS JOB! WAKE UP people, surely you will NOT vote for this poor excuse for a leader AGAIN? You know he will never change and that leaves us in a terrible situation, much worse than we were three years ago!

hey wingers — I keep trying to figure out how a Presidential trade visit to such places as El Salvador, Chile and Brazil became, in your minds, a “vacation in Rio.” Someone help me out here.

By the way, if you compare the amount of vacation time spent by President Obama vs. President Bush, you will be unhappy with what you find.
