Will Obama and Holder seize this opportunity to take out Murdoch, FOX News, WSJ, etc over bribery?

My humble opinion: Yes he will.

REUTERS: Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp could face probes by U.S. authorities for possibly violating bribery laws, compounding the media mogul’s problems after a phone-hacking scandal in Britain.

The Obama administration has significantly stepped up enforcement of anti-bribery laws in the last two years, winning big settlements from the likes of Daimler AG and BAE Systems Plc by focusing on bribes they paid to foreign officials to win lucrative contracts.

Bribes for business have represented the bulk of these anti-bribery cases brought by the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission. It is unclear whether U.S. authorities would use scarce resources to probe News Corp over bribes allegedly paid to British police and other officials for information that became news scoops.

Employees of Murdoch’s now-shuttered News of the World tabloid have been accused of hacking into personal voicemail and paying bribes. British authorities are investigating.

Walking Short: The Life and Lies of Sheriff Dupnik

SELWYN DUKE-CANADA FREE PRESS: The obvious villain in theGabrielle Giffords tragedy is the man who caused it, the very disturbed Jared Lee Loughner. Sadly, though, there have been villains in the response to it, too—many villains. And while it’s hard to make a pick for this Black Hat Award, one man who has certainly distinguished himself is Pima County, Arizona, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.

As you may know, Dupnik has been busy warning of how speech has consequences while in the same breath blaming conservatives for the actions of Loughner. Now, I don’t blame the sheriff for asking why. It is fine to look for reasons. It is not fine to be reckless and wrong. And it’s a sin when it’s born of indifference to Truth.

To be precise, Dupnik implicates right-wing talk radio—he mentioned Rush Limbaugh—and cable news in the Giffords shooting. Yet a number of obvious things seem to have eluded this man, this supposed professional investigator. For starters, if we’re actually going to analyze the politics of Loughner, we should note that one of his former classmates describes him as a “left wing” “political radical” and “pot head” and that Loughner had listed The Communist Manifesto among his favorite works on his YouTube page. Then, many know about Loughner’s bizarre YouTube video. What few know, however, is that he apparently posted it to DemocraticUnderground.com before its appearance on YouTube. Yes, sheriff, that’s “democratic” as in Democratic Party—not as in Republican, Tea, or Animal House.

Conservative Radio in Crosshairs: Renewed Calls for “Fairness Doctrine” Following AZ Massacre

RAHM EMANUEL: “Never let a crisis go to waste”

POLITICO: As I reported on the main site today, conservative media figures’ fears that the left will use Tucson to clamp down on them are not entirely unfounded.

Rep. Jim Clyburn wants to bring back the Fairness Doctrine – a move aimed directly at talk radio – while Media Matters CEO David Brock asked Rupert Murdoch to rein in or possibly even fire Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin.

It’s hard not to read today’s news that Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee plans to ban state employees from appearing on talk radio during work hours within the same frame, though Ben Smith points out that likely has more to do with local beef than the current national debate about “tone.”

Liberal Publishes Book Titled “The Assassination of Rush Limbaugh”

OPENING LINE OF BOOK: “As long as that son-of-a-bitch is on the air, we’re at a huge disadvantage.”

Dopey Liberal Sheriff blames Rush Limbaugh for Tuscon Massacre

ABC NEWS: The Arizona sheriff investigating the Tucson shooting that leftU.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded had harsh words today for those engaging in political rhetoric, calling conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh “irresponsible” for continuing the vitriol.

“The kind of rhetoric that flows from people like Rush Limbaugh, in my judgment he is irresponsible, uses partial information, sometimes wrong information,” Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said today. “[Limbaugh] attacks people, angers them against government, angers them against elected officials and that kind of behavior in my opinion is not without consequences.”

Limbaugh today railed against the media and Dupnik for trying to draw a link between the heated political climate and the shooting rampage, calling the sheriff a “fool.” But Dupnik stood by his assertions.
